Shabbat Religious School Dates | Tuesday Religious/Hebrew School Dates

Shir Chadash: Building a Vibrant Saturday Community

This fall, Shir Chadash is excited to launch the pilot of our new Shabbat Religious School program!

Shabbat is the heart of Jewish life - our most sacred and joyful time of the week. By gathering on Saturday mornings, children will not only learn about Judaism, but live it. They'll join in the rhythm of Shabbat services, experience its melodies and rituals, and feel a deep sense of connection to something greater than themselves.

Being present on Shabbat allows our students to:

Connect to sacred Jewish time in an authentic, experiential way
Learn the Shabbat service by participating in real time
Become part of the broader Shir Chadash community that gathers each week to celebrate together

Our goal is to reinvigorate Saturdays at Shir Chadash - bringing students, families, and generations together for prayer, learning, and joy.

Saturday Religious School Schedule

09:30 AM - 10:45 AM
Children divided into 2-3 age-based groups
- Torah Learning
- Hebrew Reading and Tefillah
- Holiday Education
  (No writing/cutting/coloring - Shabbat-appropriate learning only)
10:45 AM - 11:00 AM: Snack and Recess
11:00 AM - 11:50 AM: Children's Shabbat Service
Led by David Wesson, with increasing child co-leadership over time
11:50 AM - 12:00 PM: Participation in Main Sanctuary
Children will share songs or teachings during adult services to promote inter-generational engagement

Please note: If your child is in 3rd - 7th Grade the cost of Religious School includes a 75 minute weekly Hebrew class taught at the Uptown JCC on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:15 PM.

Thank you to the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans for their generosity of annual Communal Vouchers which supports our ability to continue providing Hebrew Education here at Shir Chadash.

DISCOUNT OPPORTUNITIES:
We are happy to announce that we have many discount opportunities for sending your children to Shir Chadash Religious School:

Early Bird Discount: Families that register their children for Religious School prior to July 1, 2025, will receive a 10% discount off of their Religious School tuition.
New Member Discount: Families that have joined Shir Chadash as of January 2025 and are paying at least $630 in annual dues will receive one year of FREE Religious School tuition.
High Dues Category Discount: ALL families paying at least $1500 in annual dues will receive a discount of 30% in Religious School tuition.
Sibling Discount: Every subsequent child registered after Student 1, qualifies for a $40 discount off of their Religious School Tuition.

* Photography Authorization: We are very proud of our students, families, teachers, and staff. In highlighting our accomplishments, we would like to be able to use photographs and videos of various activities. We communicate these accomplishments through our newsletters, website, printed material, and various media outlets such as magazines and social media including but not limited to Facebook. Please note that children are not named on the website or in social media sources.

* Medical Authorization: I permit my child to attend Shir Chadash Religious School, and release all of its officers, directors, advisors, agents and employees from any and all liability that may arise out of my child’s participation in such activity on and off-site. I hereby authorize Shir Chadash or any authorized agent thereof to call a medical provider for necessary care for my child in case of emergency and agree to pay all expenses incurred for my child.
